Five sub-$100 million tokens keep turning up on lists of the week's biggest altcoin gainers, and by the time you read the list, two of them have given back almost everything. This is a ranking of all five, ordered by how much of each move can be traced to something that happened on a specific date, best evidence first. Where a figure comes from a weekly roundup published in November 2025 rather than this month, I say so, because that gap turns out to be most of the story.
Synapse (SYN), where the buyer has a name
Synapse is a cross-chain layer for moving assets between L1s, sidechains and L2s, and it is the only token here whose rally comes attached to a name and a timestamp. BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes bought 6.16 million SYN, worth roughly $2.2 million, and the price moved about 40% in the following 24 hours. Two product events sit alongside it: an Onramp Money partnership on 2 September 2026, and a daily trading rewards programme on Hypercall, Synapse's options venue built on Hyperliquid, which started on 14 September 2026 at 18:00 UTC.
By 16 September 2026 SYN was quoted around $0.1778 to $0.1835, up 121.86% in a day, with volume up 845.72% to about $93.5 million and market cap reported anywhere between $42 million and $90 million as it swung. Now the awkward part. That rewards programme splits $1,000 a day between maker and taker pools, and critics cited in the same CoinMarketCap coverage put Hypercall's daily protocol fees as low as $23, with the mainnet alpha offering only SpaceX pre-IPO options and no BTC, ETH or SOL pairs.
Cash Cat: the catalysts are real, the liquidity is $4.23 million
Cash Cat has more dated catalysts than anything else on this list. It was listed directly in the Robinhood app on 6 August 2026, picked up Hyperliquid perpetual futures with 3x leverage after community requests, bridged to Solana through Sunrise, and got PopDEX perpetuals on 14 September 2026. Yahoo Finance reported a roughly 4,000% week, $34.89 million in 24-hour volume, net buying of $1.36 million across 12,257 buys against 8,061 sells, and a $233,000 purchase by the trader Ansem.
Against that: the main liquidity pool held about $4.23 million while the market cap sat near $157 million, and CoinMarketCap's own summary says plainly that "thin order books leave the token exposed to another sharp unwind". There is no whitepaper, no roadmap and no identified development team. Only 1 to 2% of Robinhood Chain transactions come from actual retail app users. The chain's gas subsidy is scheduled to expire on 29 September 2026. By 16 September 2026 the token had fallen 2.97% to $0.156 with volume down 16%. It is also no longer a small cap, which is the honest answer to whether you are early.
Swarm Network was caught three days after its all-time high
This is the item that should change how you read gainer lists. The Satoshi Club roundup carried by BlockchainReporter on 13 November 2025 had Swarm Network (TRUTH) up 108.8% on the week, at $0.032 and a $66.4 million market cap. Its all-time high of $0.05017 was set on 10 November 2025, three days before that list went out.
The project itself is not nothing: a privacy-preserving oracle layer operated by AI, built on Sui, carrying Binance Alpha tags. But CertiK rates its security 3.9 out of 10, only 2.08 billion of 10 billion tokens are circulating, and the fully diluted valuation is $135.92 million against a current market cap of $28.34 million. CoinMarketCap now lists it at $0.013593, which is 72.91% below that November peak. The product may still work. The entry price on the list did not.
Surge: 231% and no named partner
Surge (SURGE) topped the same weekly cohort with a 231.2% gain, adding $45.4 million to reach a $65.1 million market cap at $0.065. The stated reason was "new partnerships and increased ecosystem liquidity". Which partnerships? The source does not say, and I have not found a project description, a current price or an exchange page to check it against.
I am not calling it a fraud. I am saying that an unnamed partnership is not a catalyst, it is a sentence, and it explains a 231% move exactly as well as it explains a 5% one. There is a standard sequence for how to validate an altcoin project's credibility, and this one stops at the first step: identify the counterparty. Until someone publishes the name, Surge sits at the bottom of the evidence ranking even though it sat at the top of the gains ranking.
Hippo (SUDENG) is market beta with a face on it
Hippo is a Sui meme coin launched in late 2024, named after Moo Deng, the baby hippo at Thailand's Khao Kheow Open Zoo. On the November 2025 list it was up 217.1% to a $71.6 million market cap at $0.007. Today CoinMarketCap's snapshot puts it at $0.0001148 with a market cap of $1.13 million, which is about 98% of that valuation gone.
What is useful here is the diagnosis. The analysis calls the price action "beta-driven", moving with Bitcoin and general sentiment rather than anything the project did: down 4.36% on 16 September 2026 when the whole market fell 2.52%, up 1.63% on 14 September when it rose. No project-specific catalyst was identified in either direction. Volume of $1.85 million against a $1.13 million cap gives a ratio of 1.64, which means the float turns over faster than it is worth, and moves in both directions get amplified accordingly.
Where I would start, and what the ranking is really measuring
Start with Synapse, not because the chart is good but because it is the only one where you can check the claim: a named buyer, a dated product launch, and a fee figure you can hold against the market cap. The best argument for the others is that catalysts often show up after price does, and Invezz made exactly that point about SYN itself, writing that "there appears to be no major fundamental event behind the move" while it ran 327% in a week. Fair. But an RSI near 87, flagged in that same analysis, with support at $0.0767 and then $0.06, tells you what buying into that looks like.
One caution on the sources. The CoinMarketCap pages are machine-generated snapshots, and within the same mid-September window one sets Bitcoin support at $75,000 while another describes Bitcoin bleeding under $60,000. Use them for prices and volumes, not for conclusions. And the wider point of hunting gems before they explode is that the weekly gainer list is a record of a move that has already been paid for by somebody. Swarm Network's appearance on one, three days after its high, is what that costs.
